The Rebel Poet of Bengal

He was born in the year 1899. Wiki mentions his date of birth as 24th May. But the Bengali calendar mentions this as 11th Joishta. This compares current Englisha date of 27 th May. The place was Churulia village of Asansol sub-division in Burdwan district of current West Bengal, India.

Who cares!

His famous writing in poems is "Bidrohi" which translatees to "The Rebel".

Those who are Bengali or understand Bengali language and culture in depth, will know that whenever this poem is recited in the proper tones and manner, one is sure to get goose bumps.

This poems is an epitome of one's high self esteem thinking and feelings. The lines of this poems intills in an individual the moral high standard that one should always have, strive for the same and never to surrender such self esteem, goals that only the Creator can think of in a human being.

However, I gave ChatGPT a task to find out the popularity of this great soldier, writer, journalist-poet in the English community.

Below is the text output from that:-

Quote....

"Kazi Nazrul Islam, also known as the "Rebel Poet," is one of the most celebrated poets in the Bengali language and a cultural icon in Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.
While his works have been translated into English and other languages, he is not widely known in English-speaking countries outside of South Asia. However,

Nazrul Islam's impact on Bengali literature, culture, and politics has been significant, and his works have been influential in shaping the Bengali language and identity. He was a versatile writer who wrote poems, songs, essays, and novels that reflected his rebellious spirit and his passion for social justice and freedom. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in Nazrul Islam's work among English-speaking audiences, particularly in academia and literary circles. Scholars and translators have been working to bring his works to a wider audience, and there have been a few publications and events in the West that have featured his poetry. Overall, while Nazrul Islam may not be as well-known in English-speaking countries as he is in South Asia, his impact on Bengali literature and culture cannot be underestimated, and his works continue to inspire generations of readers and writers."
